Job description

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is home to currently 12 academic departments, multiple research centres and close to 400 academic staff.

Working closely with the Pro- Vice Dean for Research Culture and the wider Research team, the post holder provides strategic input in and leadership on operational support for the Faculty’s research incubation and research culture agenda with the aim of creating and sustaining a vibrant, inclusive and productive research ecosystem, benefitting academic and research staff, Postgraduate research students as well as professional services teams.

The role holder will work strategically across the faculty to further advance our work on and support for our Faculty research centres and groups, research integrity, early career development, open research and general cross faculty research collaborations. The role holder will be the operational lead for the faculty in identifying and developing training and development needs as well as new and improved processes to capture and support activities in those areas. They will lead on developing and embedding robust Faculty structures and policies (in line with the College’s concordat for Research Integrity), working with and supporting the team of research Integrity advisors in the areas of research ethics, research misconduct and research skill development. For this they will work closely with the Faculty Research team as well as departmental research , PGR and ECR leads, PIs and professional services teams.

The role holder will be taking an active role in developing a programme of activities designed to advance the faculty’s knowledge of new and innovative research methodologies and practices, sharing existing best practice from within and external to King’s.

To further support the Faculty’s success in grant capture the role holder will work closely with the Faculty’s Research Development Manager, ensuring excellence in ongoing bid development and the strategic fostering of project ideas (pre-award) and exploitation of completed projects (post-award).

The role holder will be a member of the Faculty’s research leadership team, led by the Vice Dean for Research and the Faculty Research & Engagement Manager, working in close collaboration with the Research Culture team, the PGR support team and the Research Development team. They will represent the faculty in appropriate College meetings and committees, deputising for the Faculty Research & Engagement Manager when requested.

The role holder will be managing the Faculty pre-award coordinator.

This post will be offered on a full-time, indefinite contract.

Key responsibilities

  • To provide expert advice to colleagues across the Faculty on Research Integrity and creating an inclusive and vibrant Research Culture
  • To advise external funding bids, identifying possible synergies to existing projects and working with PIs on robust legacy plans for those projects
  • To increase Research Integrity literacy across the Faculty, including policies and processes around research ethics, research misconduct and research staff development
  • To work with the Pro-Vice Dean for Research Culture to devise and implement the Faculty’s strategy for Research Integrity
  • To devise and lead procedures and processes for developing and documenting the Faculty’s Research Culture activities
  • To advise on and support the development and exchange of knowledge on research methodologies and practices
  • To actively identify and support the development of communities of practice, including external stakeholders within and outside Higher Education as part of a wider research support team, in particular the Impact & Knowledge exchange PVD and Manager
  • To strategically inform and support the Faculty’s research KPI
  • To work closely with Research support staff in the departments, advising on and supporting local initiatives
  • To be an active member of and collaborate with the Faculty Research team and wider College research support structures

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Extensive experience in Higher Education Research support for the Humanities or Social Sciences

2. Experience in working with non HE partners and funders

3. Excellent understanding of UK higher education landscape

4. Good understanding of Research Integrity criteria and procedures

5. Ability to influence upwards and manage across

6. Experience in managing a team

Desirable criteria

1. First degree

2. Good knowledge of research methodologies

3. Experience in producing policies and designing processes

4. Experience in providing training to Academics
