Human breath contains many biomarkers of interest that offer insights into the various body conditions and diseases that the person is experiencing. Innovative sensor-based technologies could provide on-site and point-of-care detection of breath-borne volatile biomarkers.

This PhD studentship aims to use the recent 3D fibre printing technology developed from the Biointerface Group in the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge (https://biointerface.eng.cam.ac.uk/) to fabricate high sensitivity, non-contact, wearable/portable sensors for detecting selected respiratory gases.

Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) a first class in relevant disciplines, including Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Bioengineering.

EPSRC DTP studentships are fully-funded (fees and maintenance) for eligible UK students. We recommend that international students apply by 3 December, in order that they can also be put forward for funding from the Cambridge Trust for the home-overseas fee difference if selected.
