The Imperial College Healthcare Trust NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Imaging Theme brings together a highly interdisciplinary grouping of clinicians and neuroscientists with a common focus in translational research addressing major disease challenges particularly Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, traumatic brain injury, cardiac disease, brain cancer and multiple sclerosis. Imaging research is delivered in conjunction with the broader aims of the supporting BRC Imaging Core (which houses a Siemens Verio 3T MRI scanner and a Siemens Biograph 6 PET/CT scanner), the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences imaging resources (which include new 3T Siemens Skyra and Prisma scanners), and the London Collaborative Ultra-High Field Scanner at St Thomas’ Hospital (which houses a Siemens Terra 7T).
The human imaging research facilities at Imperial College London are in close proximity on the Hammersmith Hospital campus, where they are supported by a state-of-the-art multi-model preclinical imaging centre (including 9.4T MRI, PET/CT, NIRS).
Duties and responsibilities
You will join a multi-disciplinary team of physicists, clinicians, biomedical scientists, and image processing scientists working on imaging development and clinical studies within the Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine and the Imaging theme of the BRC. In particular, you will support the development of novel imaging techniques at high (3T) and ultra-high fields (7T), including their implementation and testing.
Of particular interest are steady-state free precession based approaches to quantitative imaging, and ultra-short echo time imaging. Alongside this work, they will support protocol development and optimisation for a range of neuroimaging studies.
You will have a MSc (or equivalent) degree in physics, engineering, or a closely related discipline, good understanding of basic MRI physics principles and good knowledge of basic statistics and scientific methods.
You will also have e xperience working on programming projects, experience working in a research environment and experience working with MRI data.
The role is full time and fixed term until November 2022.
