Job summary

The Department of Bioengineering wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on projects to exploit polymers and hydrogel-based biomaterials for the engineering of new materials for a range of different and exciting biomedical applications, such as the development of tissue adhesives for cell delivery. The projects are multi-disciplinary requiring knowledge of chemistry, polymer science, material science, and biofunctionalisation or bioapplications of polymers.

Duties and responsibilities

This post is based within the Regenerative Materials group at Imperial College London, working with Dr. Adam Celiz and involves collaborations with a number of research groups both nationally and internationally. The post will be based within new state-of-the-art research facilities within the Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub at the White City campus.

You will be a conscientious, innovative experimental scientist who has successfully completed a PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science or engineering including bioengineering or similar. Experience in polymer synthesis and characterisation and biomaterial design for applications in regenerative medicine are essential.

  • To have, or be about to receive a PhD in a relevant subject (Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering).
  • Experience in the development of Biomaterials, including some cell culture experience.
  • To have a good track record of academic publications commensurate with your current research experience
  • To have excellent time management, problem solving and communication skills, particularly in an academic environment
  • To work well as part of a team, including with students.

This is a fixed term position for 12 months initially, with the possibility of extension. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,694 – £39,888 per annum.
