Job summary

We are seeking to employ a postdoctoral researcher on a 24-month contract to work in the research group of Dr Ledesma-Amaro in the Imperial College Centre for Synthetic Biology . The selected researcher will join an internationally-regarded, dynamic, friendly, diverse and inclusive team working on the application of cutting-edge synthetic biology tools in pathway and metabolic engineering, addressing current challenges in key areas such as bioproduction, biotechnology and the circular economy.

Duties and responsibilities

This role is for a research associate to work on the fields of synthetic biology and/or metabolic engineering. The role has certain flexibility in terms of project scope (i.e. organisms to be used, products to be made, etc). Some of the areas of interest in the RLAlab are: synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, yeast strain engineering, microbial communities, bioprocesses, multiplexing CRISPR, novel tools, non-conventional yeasts, sustainable bioproduction, etc.

Essential requirements

Imperial College’s synthetic biology facilities are second-to-none, and include a DNA Foundry and SynBiCITE, a dedicated centre for translating lab research into synthetic biology start-ups.

Applicants must have a PhD in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, microbial biotechnology, molecular biology (or equivalent) for appointment at Research Associate level. Applicants close to completion of their PhDs will also be considered where experience is directly relevant. This is a fixed term position for 24 months. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,694 – £39,888 per annum.
