Job summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to develop novel radiotracers for human PET application. The project is funded by the NIHR Imperial College Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) award and addresses the challenge of design and synthesis of radiotracers as biomarkers for clinical trials.

Duties and responsibilities

You will i) design small molecule, peptide and macromolecule radiotracers for labelling, ii) develop synthetic routes, automation, formulation and analysis of such vectors for human application, and iii) support clinical translation and manufacture. Alongside this you will assist in writing academic publications for conferences and refereed journals, as well as plan and carry out research in accordance with the project aims. You will work under the direction of Professor Eric Aboagye.

Essential requirements

You must demonstrate how you meet the criteria as outlined in the person specification but in particular, must have a PhD or equivalent qualification. Additionally, you should have experience of radiochemistry, medicinal / synthetic organic chemistry, molecular probe discovery and development, metabolism and physiochemical property testing and analytical methods (NMR, MS, HPLC). It is also essential that you have attained experience of radiochemistry chasers, design and synthesis of small molecules, peptides or antibodies and in solution and solid phase synthetic chemistry methodologies. Proven ability in the use of analytical techniques such as NMR, Mass Spec and HPLC is desirable.

This position is full time and available for a fixed term until 31 March 2022. You will be based at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus of Imperial College London, East Acton.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 – £39,183 per annum.
