Job description

Job summary

Are you looking to kick-start your career? Do you enjoy making things, tinkering or creative crafts? Then our apprenticeship could be for you!

Imperial College London is a science-based university with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Central to our success and ability to innovate are our technicians, who provide solutions to engineering problems and vital technical support. That’s why we have developed a Technician Apprenticeship Scheme – to train the future technicians who go on to work in our world-class workshops and laboratories.

Duties and responsibilities

Our apprentices specialise in either Mechanical or Electronic Engineering and combine their studies with work-based training across a range of our busy workshops and laboratories. As well as earning a competitive salary, you will build a wide range of technical skills and gain formal qualifications that will help you in your future career.

Essential requirements

Applicants will need (or expect to gain) grade 9-6 (A*-B) at GCSE in Maths and Science and grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English. No prior work experience is required. We are looking for people who are passionate about making; to be considered for interview, apprentices must tell us in their application about things they have made, which could include projects at home, work or school.

Further information

Salary: £17,686 per annum in year 1, increasing to £21,915 per annum in year 2.

Location: South Kensington and Kingston College

Type of contract: full time, fixed term for four years

Please indicate in your supporting statement whether you would like to specialise in Mechanical Engineering or Electronic Engineering. The job descriptions for the two specialisms are available to download below. Please note that applicants who do not provide a written supporting statement will not be considered for interview.

Interviews for this post will be held virtually, during the week beginning 26 April 2021.
