Job summary

The Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering is a multidisciplinary research centre, founded in 1989 as a flagship collaborative centre between Imperial, UCL and industry partners. The Centre community tackles industrial and societal challenges in sustainable manufacturing, the energy transition, smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0/digitalisation. The Centre benefits from strong links with industry through its Industrial Consortium and close collaboration with partners across the chemical and allied sectors (pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food, consumer products, chemicals, energy). The Centre’s portfolio of activities includes many high-profile events: an annual consortium meeting, a named lecture (the Roger Sargent Lecture), seminars, symposia, workshops and short courses.

Duties and responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Events and Communications Administrator are to co-ordinate and deliver the Centre’s events programme, to disseminate the Centre’s activities and outputs and to provide administrative support to the Centre. This will involve working closely with the Centre Manager and its Director / Associate Directors.

This is a busy and varied role, you will be enthusiastic and highly competent person able to multi-task and to work to deadlines. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for all queries on events, be responsible for organising seminars and events. You will be expected to produce marketing materials including the Centre’s annual report and brochure.

Essential requirements

It is essential for you to be educated to degree level or equivalent, in addition you will have:

  • Experience of planning and managing events
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems and social media tools.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with an ability to multitask and prioritise effectively
  • IT skills – proven ability to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint, online meeting platforms (Teams, Zoom) etc to a high level, as well as having technical proficiency to pick up new IT packages quickly
