Job summary

Are you ready for your next challenge based in a fast-paced environment? Do you have experience in managing and motivating people? If so, we have an opportunity for you to join the Security Services Department within the Campus Services Division at an internationally renowned university as a Security Service Manager.

You will be part of the Security Service Management Team and responsible for managing the Shift Leaders and assisting with managing the Security Officers (circa 114). The role is to ensure continuity of service across all Imperial College London campuses providing a safe and secure environment for all staff, students and visitors. This will require a broad knowledge of the College portfolio and require travelling to all Campuses on a regular basis. You will also work closely with colleagues from many other departments to provide the most up to date advice, information and support.

The role requires flexibility to work out of hours to deal with emergencies at evenings and weekends, including Bank Holidays.

With proven experience working in a similar environment and experience of being able to manage a diverse workload and people, you will demonstrate the ability to work under pressure whilst having the ability to use your own initiative without supervision.

Duties and responsibilities

    • The maintenance of good order on all College sites including the protection of everyone therein against violent acts and accident


    • The protection of College property against loss, theft, damage, (including fire and water) and waste


    • The protection of private property belonging to staff, students and visitors against loss, theft and damage


    • To supervise the security provision at all satellite campuses dealing with all staff issues


    • The post holder will be required to perform and supervise the investigation of all types of incidents providing comprehensive reports, viewing relevant CCTV and recording on disc evidential footage for the Police and statements in accordance with Security Instructions, Criminal Law, Employment Law and training


  • Understanding of data protection law and the College data protection policy

Essential requirements

    • A good command of verbal and written English, in order to understand written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with customers, including staff, students and visitors


    • Computer literacy and excellent use of Microsoft Word and Outlook Express (for email)


    • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills


    • A high level of people management skills, to train, motive and encourage staff


    • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure


    • A pro-active and flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to changing situations in a considered and calm manner and to work well under pressure


  • Ability to use own initiative without supervision

Contract Details:

Operational Services Grade 3b

£39,309 – £48,226 + Shift Allowance £11,377 p.a.

Full Time / Open Ended

The standard working week consists of 40 hours, but will require a flexible approach to working, including evenings and weekends and able to work at any location, as reasonably required
