Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small business services function within the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care to, delivering faculty-specific dimensions of business functions, such as finance, HR and space management.

The role holder will support the Executive Dean and Director of Operations in ensuring that academic priorities drive financial decision-making in balancing the academic and financial objectives of the Faculty. They will work with the senior leadership team to achieve short-and medium-term objectives relating to strategic and operational plans.

They will provide senior administrative support for business operations across the Faculty and will ensure that operational processes are managed efficiently, effectively, and professionally with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ensuring compliance with appropriate legislation and regulations will be a key results area. This will include GDPR and Health & Safety (working closely with the Health & Safety and Facilities Manager).

Working with professional services and academic colleagues across the Faculty, the post holder will shape and develop Faculty processes and the business support function, taking into consideration the needs of teaching, research and professional staff, and students while enhancing effectiveness.

We are seeking applicants who have excellent data and analytical skills and are able to draw appropriate conclusions and recommendation from information. They will be experienced in providing management and financial information to senior managers with strong written and communication skills.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.

This post will be offered on a 13-month fixed term contract from mid-January to provide maternity cover.

Interviews will take place on 9th/10th December 2021.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Dean and Director of Operations in ensuring that academic priorities drive financial decision-making in balancing the academic and financial objectives of the Faculty
  • Provide senior administrative support for business operations across the Faculty
  • Ensure that operational processes are managed efficiently, effectively, and professionally
  • Ensure that all work is completed with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate legislation and regulations
  • Deliver faculty-specific dimensions of business functions, such as finance, HR and space management
  • Lead a small business services function within the Faculty
  • Ensure that diversity, inclusion and equity inform the work of the Faculty.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Undergraduate degree or equivalent, or significant vocational experience

2. Excellent IT skills and comprehensive familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, Power BI and use of content management systems

3. Proven ability to provide effective management and financial information to senior managers

4. Excellent oral, written and digital communication skills, with an ability to engage effectively and effectively with diverse stakeholders within and outside the organisation

5. Excellent attention to detail, able to deliver accurate high quality work, including when under pressure

6. Ability to handle data with confidence and draw out appropriate conclusions and recommendations

7. Experience of staff development, management and associated processes

8. Experience of working in a fast paced and complex environment, delivering services to customers

9. Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment, setting and achieving the highest standards, as part of a team and individually

10. Ability to prioritise workload and progress a range of tasks simultaneously

11. Demonstrable organisational and project management skills

12. Knowledgeable in diversity, equity and inclusion issues and policies

Desirable criteria

1. Business management qualification

2. Knowledge of the higher education sector

3. Demonstrable experience of supporting strategic planning and policy development

4. Experience of managing risk assessment and business continuity processes
