Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Chef de Partie to join our busy team at the Western Education Centre on our Denmark Hill campus. Reporting into the Chef Manager you will be responsible for assisting with the day to day running of the kitchen operations focusing on quality and consistency. This is a hands-on role and ideally you will have experience at a similar level and above all else have the drive and deliver excellence of service. This is a busy and challenging role, and the ideal candidate will possess the following skills.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

This is a full-time post

Key responsibilities

  • Assisting the chef manager and kitchen team with the daily production of all food items
  • Maintain high levels of hygiene and comply with all food hygiene and health and safety regulations
  • Check food wastage and monitor food cost targets
  • Assist with the service of meals in the main restaurant, mobile units and coffee shops
  • Plan daily workload and ensure the service is ready on time
  • Brief catering assistants on the daily menus and content of dishes
  • Supervise the production and delivery of meals throughout service
  • Conduct stock checks and place orders with suppliers
  • Address customers’ requests and enquiries

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Hold a recognised catering qualification

2. Hold a food handlers’ certificate – Intermediate level

3. Knowledge of food preparation, cooking and portion control

4. Knowledge of food hygiene, health, and safety regulations

5. Knowledge of food allergens

6. Excellent cooking skills

7. Passionate about food

8. Experience of producing a wide variety of foods

9. Experience of food preparation for large numbers

10. Experience of hospitality and events catering

11. Experience of working as part of a team

12. Experience of costing food items

Desirable criteria

1. Knowledge of special diets
