The Department of War Studies is seeking applications for the post of Lecturer in International Relations Education. Appointments to the Academic Education Pathway (AEP) are focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship and leadership in education.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of teaching in the Department of War Studies and its BA and MA programmes in International Relations and the MA programme in International Conflict Studies. They will be required to deliver lectures and seminars on core modules, to design and deliver new modules in the Department, deliver appropriate learning materials, examine students’ work, and supervise BA, MA , and PhD student projects.
They will also undertake and publish high-quality scholarship and play a role in the institutional and intellectual development of War Studies and undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.
Applicants must have a PhD.

This is a full-time post
• To take a role in the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching activities within the Department in accordance with established departmental practice.
• Undertake teaching on the BA and MA programmes in International Relations and the MA in International Conflict Studies.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and design of the curriculum, in a manner that supports a research-led approach to student learning.
• Contribute to innovation in pedagogical practices.
• Act as personal tutor to students as agreed with the Head of Department and assist with difficulties, e.g. learning support problems.
• Participate fully in assessment and examination processes as appropriate using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
• Undertake high-quality scholarship in the subject area, publish the findings in highly-rated internationally recognised journals, and participate in the major internationally recognised academic networks.
• Engage in professional development as appropriate.
• Accept academic responsibility within the Department and School, involving departmental administrative responsibilities in respect of student services, student recruitment and advice as well as participating in aspects of School governance on School committees
• Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department.
• Identify programme development needs and propose how these should be achieved.
• Design, deliver and assess modules through conventional means and through e-learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues on implementation of assessment procedures.
• Advise on strategic issues such as student recruitment and marketing.
• Contribute to accreditation and quality control processes.
• Ensure student needs and expectations are met.
• Manage projects relating to own area of scholarship.
• Take responsibility for administrative duties such as admissions, recruitment, examinations, attendance, etc.

Skills, knowledge, and experience
• PhD in International Relations, Politics, Philosophy or other related discipline, with a focus on relevant subject matter.
• Experience of teaching on International Relations and International Conflict Studies programmes and related subject areas.
• Familiarity with and advancement of critical theoretical and conceptual approaches in International Relations and International Conflict Studies.
• A track record in both campus-based and online delivery, indicating experience in innovative pedagogical practices.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Experience of innovative curriculum and teaching design.
• Cooperate in contributing to diversity and inclusion efforts.
• Add to the diversity of subject matter expertise among the faculty associated with the International Relations and International Conflict Studies programmes in the Department of War Studies.
• Have an emerging research agenda, and a proven capacity to relate research to teaching.
• Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• For an appointment at Grade 7, candidates must also show proven ability in and experience of academic leadership
• Show excellent organizational skills.
• Have a track record of wider administrative contribution to the delivery of departmental activities.
