Job Description

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher with a strong previous experience in electrochemical nanofabrication of metamaterials and hetero-structured nanoparticles, optical characterisation and applications in photochemistry. The post will be within the EPSRC Reactive Plasmonics Programme Grant led by Professor Anatoly Zayats of the Department of Physics, King’s College London. A post-doctoral research associate will be responsible for fabrication of plasmonic metamaterials and/or hetero-structured nanoparticles and study of photochemical and electrochemical processes induced by plasmonic nanostructures. Furthermore, the role holder will be responsible for the supervision of PhD and MSc students working in the relevant areas. It is an excellent opportunity for a researcher to further their skill set in a rapidly advancing field, as well as providing opportunities to manage and take responsibility for both research tasks and people.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

  • To engage in internationally-leading research and to take a role in determining the future path of this research
  • To take a role in building, overseeing, upkeep and maintenance of research equipment and infrastructure, and in ordering of consumables
  • To take an active role in the research project on fabrication of hetero-structured plasmonic nanoparticles for photochemical applications
  • Preparation of manuscripts for the publication, and conference presentation of the results of the research, supervision of PhD and Masters students

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Essential criteria

  • PhD in physics (or being near completion of PhD in physics)
  • Significant experience in electrochemical fabrication of metamaterials and plasmonic hetero-nanoparticles
  • Experience in optical spectroscopy
  • Experience is structural characterisation (AFM, SEM, TEM)
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
  • The ability to learn new scientific methods by self study from the scientific literature
  • Ability to organise and manage own workload
  • Good attention to detail

Desirable criteria

  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with collaborators from wide range of disciplines

Further information

The post is available immediately until 31 September 2021. Shortlisting for the post will be based on CV and the publication list. The interviews will be held within 14 days of the closing date.
