The Role

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic and outstanding Lecturer in Accounting (T&S) who can contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, specifically covering teaching areas which include auditing, financial accounting, corporate governance, management accounting and taxation (which may include our Flying Start programme run in partnership with PwC and ICAEW). The ability to teach auditing or management accounting would be particularly welcome. You will be committed to the success and development of Newcastle University Business School. You will have a strong scholarly profile or trajectory and will join the dynamic and vibrant Accounting and Finance subject group within a business school that is committed to collegiality and academic citizenship. You must be able to demonstrate teaching and scholarship excellence.

You must have a relevant professional qualification in accountancy (ICAEW/ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA) derived from professional practice and/or industry with demonstrable professional and commercial experience that can be used for context when bringing lectures to life.

Accounting and Finance is one of four subject groups within Newcastle University Business School. Our accounting academics are world-leading researchers in several areas of accounting including accounting history, CSR reporting, financial misconduct and performance measurement. Key Accountabilities

  • To have a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and student support
  • Provide high quality research-led teaching of modules within the Business School
  • Support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor
  • Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise on-line and digitised curricula and education frameworks
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Contribute to the scholarly and practice profile of the Business School by engaging in scholarly research and activities, impact, practice, CPD and external funding
  • Demonstrate the potential for impact by developing practice-based solutions to real-world problems, produce scholarly outputs and engage with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work and the life of the School
  • Provide education for life, that engages, challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated
  • Contribute to the Business School’s Triple Accreditation and Professional Body Accreditations
  • Operate as an active citizen in the Business School community

  • A good Honours degree (preferably in a relevant subject)
  • A professional accountancy qualification (ICAEW/ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with at least one year’s post qualification experience
  • A profile with currency which meets external accreditation bodies’ criteria
  • Professional Body Membership as appropriate to the Subject area
