This includes delivering an active programme of research, as well undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision. Depending on the grade that you are appointed to you will take on leadership roles as appropriate, including mentoring of other colleagues, curriculum development and engagement activities.
If you are focussed you are expected to affiliate to one of the Faculty’s research themes and to the Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School which delivers postgraduate research degrees.

- To carry out research in an area of Psychology, including regular publication in internationally-recognised journals, obtaining grant funding, and dissemination activities;
To undertake teaching, module leadership and supervision of research projects of under-, and post-graduate students in Psychology and related areas;
- To undertake administrative duties as deemed necessary, including participation in relevant School and Faculty committees and activities. For Grade H appointment, a substantive leadership role would be negotiated with the Head of School;
- To contribute to the promotion of psychology programmes to both current and prospective students;
- To act as a personal tutor to a group of students, concerned with students’ academic achievements, and pastoral care;
- To contribute to University administration, course planning, curriculum development and the recruitment of students;
- To undertake other duties, such as participation in School, Faculty and University meetings, as detailed by the Head of School.
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Expert knowledge in one or more areas of psychological research;
- Knowledge of the processes of conduct and dissemination of scientific research, including understanding of how to make research open, reproducible, robust and ethical;
- Understanding of current themes and issues in the delivery of BPS-accredited Psychology programmes;
- Specialist knowledge and interest in areas relevant to our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Excellent research skills;
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
- Ability to work well on own initiative and as part of a team;
- Excellent organisational, administrative and planning skills;
- For Grade H, ability to mentor junior colleagues;
- For Grade H, ability to provide leadership in teaching, research or scholarship;

- For Grade F/G, potential to provide leadership in teaching, research or scholarship.
- For grades G/H a proven track record in conducting and publishing high-quality research in internationally recognised journals; for grade F as appropriate to career level;
- For grades G/H experience in seeking funding for research; for grade F the potential to do so;
- Experience of teaching psychology at under-, and/or post-graduate level;
- For grades G/H experience in the supervision of under-, and/or post-graduate dissertation students. For Grade F, the ability to supervise under- and/or post-graduate projects;
- For Grade H, evidence of standing at national/international level in discipline;
- For Grade H, evidence of ability to undertake a senior role in the school;
- For Grade G/H, understanding and experience in processes involved in module and programme development and leadership.
