Salary:

Research Assistant: £28,756 – £29,614,with progression to £30,497 per annum

Research Associate: £31,406 – 33,309 with progression to £40,927 per annum

The Role

This exciting Research Associate/ Assistant opening is looking for a IoT Security expert to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team working on all aspects of security and privacy of IoT, sensor, and mobile environments.

You will have responsibility for carrying out research on various aspects of IoT technology including but not limited to: Web apps and APIs, Mobile apps, Sensors, Networks, Cloud architecture and configuration, Source code analysis, Hardware and firmware. This will require extensive experience in security evaluation of IoT environments i.e. identifying vulnerabilities, performing attacks, and proposing solutions. Your goal is to evaluate security and privacy of IoT technologies via various methods such as traffic interception, side-channel attacks, fingerprinting and tracking attacks.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has demonstrable communication skills, who is a consummate team-player and has previous exposure and thus the ability to produce high quality outputs under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI).

This position is available on a full time, fixed term basis, to start immediately for the duration of12 months.

Key Accountabilities

• Perform hands-on security assessments and reviews on various pieces of technology including but not limited to: Web apps and APIs, Mobile apps, Sensors, Networks, Cloud architecture and configuration, Source code analysis, Hardware and firmware
• Create comprehensive assessment reports that clearly identify vulnerabilities, how they impact the products and users, and remediation strategies
• Communicate with team members within the group, university, and beyond
• Lead and contribute to writing scientific papers and project reports, and present at scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Demonstrable experience in conducting research in IoT, Network, Mobile security and privacy
• Demonstrable experience in security evaluation of IoT infrastructure (Web apps and APIs, Mobile apps, Sensors, Networks, Cloud architecture and configuration, Source code analysis, Hardware and firmware)
• Exposure to, or experienced of publishing work in peer-reviewed journals

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience working with scientists, users, industrial partners, and policymakers
• Demonstrable experience in performing attacks using different methods e.g. traffic analysis, static and dynamic analysis and ML and AI.
• Demonstrable experience in supporting more junior team members such as PhD students.

Qualifications

• PhD awarded (or near the completion) in computing science, engineering or a very closely related discipline
