The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated research group looking to a part innovative Software Engineering team to specifically focus on building Blockchain solutions, Privacy-preservation (specifically for GDPR compliance in container-based cloud ecosystems), and Secure Healthcare Ecosystems. We are seeking an individual with strong programming skills and experienced in software practices and software sustainability.

You will initially work on the EPSRC sponsored PACE: Privacy-Aware Cloud Ecosystems project. This project involving other partner universities is developing novel computational methods to better ensure that cloud providers can enhance data privacy and will provide the basis for conforming to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements.

You will support in developing a container-based blockchain platform for PACE and healthcare service providers which is used to prevent data leakage, auditability, event monitoring/tracking, and privacy preservation. You will support in creating a platform to develop and coordinate various process modules developed within the team and ensure the performance of the whole system meets the project requirements.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for supporting the delivery of software, helping to develop and support collaborating researchers by determining new/modified systems to support the project aims
• Contribute to the selection and use of software infrastructure, including technologies for version control, continuous integration, deployment and code review. Testing and correcting software where applicable.
• Implements and evaluates the software.
• Collaborate with other researchers to develop appropriate technical solutions to research problems. Writes and codes programmes according to specifications.
• Present work and provide updates, including the effective communication of complex or technical information, at project meetings and events
• Write operational documentation and provide training and support for team members and researchers to ensure effective use of relevant technologies
• Maintain and develop knowledge to keep abreast of the latest and most relevant technologies related to the project
• Any other duties and responsibilities within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Experience or taught knowledge in one or more areas of Software Engineering. Including, but not limited to; Parallel Blockchains, Microservices, Serverless Cloud Computing, EU & UK Compliance regulations
• Software development experience in a research or commercial environment
• Understanding of software development tools and methodologies, including programming languages, documentation, testing, version control, issue tracking, and continuous integration
• Track record of developing software that is used by others
• Ability to manage own work, including planning and execution
• Understanding of a range of data manipulation methods and tools is desirable
• Knowledge of Linux, Container-based Virtualization and HPC technologies
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript/Angular/Node.js/TypeScript, Python
• Cloud-based technologies: AWS/Azure/Google Cloud, Docker/Jenkins/Kubernetes
• Good knowledge of Hyperledger or Ethereum, Viper, Simplicity, Solidity, and Chaincode is extremely required.
• Good knowledge of Full Stack development, Web development, Data structures, Data architecture, Smart contracts, Cryptography, Consensus Design.
• Experience of working on Blockchain projects (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple) is desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal, listening and communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Good communication skills including the ability to present complex or technical information and the ability to work with others to understand technical and user requirements is desirable
• Experience of deployment of software solutions is desirable

Qualifications
• An MSc awarded (or nearing completion) in Computer Science or a closely related discipline; or equivalent software experience
