Grade 10a: Combined University and College salary: £48,835 – £65,574 per annum, plus a College Housing Allowance of £9,572 per annum (if applicable) plus other benefits

The Department of Biochemistry is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor who applies multiscale approaches to address fundamental questions in cellular and molecular biochemistry using either prokaryotic or eukaryotic models. The appointee’s research programme should exploit the Departments major investments in cutting-edge technology for single particle cryo-EM, FIB-SEM and super-resolution imaging and will also benefit from existing facilities for proteomics, protein crystallography, molecular biophysics, and biological NMR. The appointee will be provided with high quality laboratory space in the New Biochemistry Building and will join one of our diverse, interdisciplinary, and highly interactive Research Themes that address questions in the areas of Cell & Developmental Biology, Gene Regulation & Chromosome Biology, Microbiology & Systems Biology, Infectious Disease, and Membrane Structural Biology. All groups share state-of-the art research support for computation, structural, cellular and molecular biology and have access to a range of Departmental and University PhD training programmes. In addition to driving an ambitious and progressive research programme, the appointee will also contribute to teaching the next generation of Biochemists through our 4-year Masters-level degree course in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry.

Applicants should have a higher degree and postdoctoral experience in a relevant biologically-related science; a strong track record of published research, and commitment to attracting research funding; verified experience of undergraduate teaching; proven ability to contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of graduate students; good communication and interpersonal skills; the ability and commitment to undertake a range of administrative duties within both the Department and the College, and to contribute to outreach activities and widening access.
