Salary on the scale within the range £48,114 to £64,605 p.a.

(plus College benefits including housing allowance of £14,257 p.a. and a Supplementary Duties Allowance of £5,057 p.a.)

The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) at Oxford is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for teaching and research. The study of these disciplines at Oxford has a long and distinguished history and the Department is one of the largest in the field in the UK.

The Department, in association with St John’s College, now seeks jointly to appoint an inspirational teacher and accomplished research scholar to an Associate Professorship in International Relations.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage actively in research in the Department and St John’s College and to contribute through world-class publications to the Department’s and University’s international reputation for research excellence.

The post-holder will offer teaching in the DPIR and St John’s College, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, contribute to administration and examining, and act as a College Advisor for graduate students in the relevant subject(s). The post will be held in conjunction with an Official Fellowship at St John’s College.

Applications are welcomed from outstanding candidates with strong research background and/or expertise in international relations. Essential criteria include a completed doctorate in international relations or a closely related field and an outstanding, world-class portfolio of research and publications in international relations. University teaching experience in international relations is also essential, as is an ability to contribute to excellent teaching of research methods and research design at the postgraduate level.

The post-holder will be allocated space for teaching and research in the Department of Politics of International Relations as well as a room in St John’s College.

Associate Professor is the main academic career grade at Oxford with a focus on research and teaching, spanning the full range of professor grades in the USA. In exceptional cases, the title of full Professor may be awarded on appointment.

Appointments to Associate Professorships are confirmed as permanent on successful completion of a review during the first 5 years. Any offer made will be subject to pre-employment checks. The post is offered on a full-time basis, available from 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
