Grade 8: £41,526 per annum

A 3-year fixed-term teaching and research appointment in English Language and Literature, with a core focus on the period from 1550-1830, is available for an outstanding academic at an early stage of their career. The purpose of the post is to cover the Faculty and College teaching of Professor Paulina Kewes, who will be on research leave funded by the Leverhulme Trust from 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2024.

The postholder will be expected to deliver up to 16 hours of Faculty lectures or classes per year. It is expected that this will include class teaching for a final year undergraduate or MSt option course in the area of the Departmental Lecturer’s research specialism, in addition to undergraduate lecturing. For Jesus College, they will be expected to provide 8 hours of undergraduate tutorial or class teaching per week on literature in English from 1550 to 1830, including Shakespeare. They will also undertake dissertation supervision, examining and the normal duties of a college tutor, including admissions.

The successful candidate must have a doctorate in the field of English Literature or a related field, must have experience of undergraduate teaching and possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. They should also have a research and publication record, appropriate to their career stage, in literature in English in the periods relevant to the post. Applications from those with interests in Shakespeare or Renaissance literatures in English are strongly encouraged.

It is anticipated that the appointee will take up the post on 1 October 2021.

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be asked to submit a sample of written work in advance of the interviews, and will be requested to give a short presentation as part of the assessment process. Two references will be sought for shortlisted candidates.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 8 March 2021. Interviews are expected to be held on Microsoft Teams on 31 March 2021.
