Oxford Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,817 -£40,322 per annum

Departmental Lecturer in Global Governance

The Oxford Department of International Development seeks to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Global Governance. The post is fixed-term for one year from 1 September 2021 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31 August 2022 to cover the sabbatical leave of a member of permanent academic staff.

The Departmental Lecturer will provide teaching and supervision for the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy (MSc GGD) and carry out related independent research. The MSc GGD is an academic programme that prepares students for careers in regional and transnational institutions of governance, including nongovernmental organizations and private sector firms interacting with these institutions. The degree also prepares students for careers in diplomacy and provides the basis for future doctoral studies. The Departmental Lecturer will be responsible to the Head of Department and work under the supervision of the Course Director of the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy.

Applicants must hold, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate in International Relations or other related field. You must demonstrate an ability to teach qualitative research methods and contribute to teaching on the foundation course on Global Governance and Diplomacy. You will need sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge and theoretical background on the paradigms, institutions and processes of global governance to develop course materials and research proposals. You must have aptitude, ability and experience to teach and supervise graduate students of a high calibre, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design; as well as an active research and publication record commensurate with your stage of career, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in relation to global governance. You must also be able to work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

The University of Oxford and the Department of International Development are Athena SWAN Bronze award holders in recognition of their efforts to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for both men and women. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in teaching and research posts in Oxford.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Thursday 25th February 2021 can be considered.
