Departmental Lectureship in Development Economics

The Oxford Department of International Development seeks applications for a full-time Departmental Lectureship in Development Economics. The postholder will be responsible to the Head of Department, Professor Diego Sanchez-Ancochea, and will contribute to and coordinate the teaching of Quantitative Methods (QM) Macro Theory and/or Micro Theory on the MSc Economics for Development course. The QM course is a two-term graduate level course in applied econometrics with a heavy emphasis on hands-on application of methods to data and problems in development economics; and Micro Theory and Macro Theory are one-term graduate courses. Each involves giving lectures and classes, providing small group supervision as well as supporting students’ dissertation research. The lecturer will also conduct independent research in the field of development economics.

Applicants should have:

• A doctorate in economics with a focus on development issues and a strong quantitative component, or evidence that a doctorate is imminently expected.

• An aptitude for teaching and some experience of teaching and research

• A proven ability and experience necessary to teach quantitative methods to high-achieving and challenging graduate students, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design;

• Sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge of development economics to develop course materials and research proposals

• An active research record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of development economics;

• An academic publication record commensurate with stage of career;

• The ability to present research findings effectively to fellow professionals or other informed members of the public;

• The ability to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department and the ability to innovate and work effectively with colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team.
