Facilities Technician

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 4: £22,417 – £25,941 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a Facilities Technician to help in the maintenance and servicing of the laboratory and building environment within Biochemistry and the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Institute (DCHI), ensuring that the building and equipment are professionally maintained and serviced in a timely and proficient manner. You will be responsible for general maintenance duties, including repair and redecoration of the building, plumbing and occasional basic electrical and mechanical repairs. You will also take part in the annual electrical testing programme and weekly legislative fire and sprinkler testing. The provision of first line response in the event of a building services or equipment breakdown or emergency will also be required. You will also be required to assist in the compilation and retention of records, drawing and standard operating procedures.

Applicants should hold a recognised qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent in building services and have experience in basic repairs/maintenance of laboratory or other equipment, including some electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering repairs. You must be able to demonstrate your initiative and have an awareness of Health and Safety requirements. Familiarity with workshop machinery and practices and the ability to organise your own daily work schedule is essential. You will also be computer literate, possess manual dexterity and have the ability to work cooperatively with others.

This full-time permanent post is funded by the Department and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.

This position is graded on the University’s grade 4 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available
