Griffith Institute Administrator

Sackler Library, St John Street, Oxford

Grade 4: £22,847 – £26,341 per annum

This is a varied and interesting administrative role in which the post holder will provide essential support for all aspects of the Griffith Institute’s activities. The post holder will assist in the day to day running of the Institute’s archive, the management of income streams, and other specific duties for both the Institute and the wider Egyptology and Ancient Near East Subject Group (EANES).

The post provides autonomy and the opportunity to exercise some initiative day to day, with broader direction from the Director of the Institute, and collaboration with senior Institute staff for matters relating to the Bibliographies and Archive. The post holder will report formally to Deputy the Head of Administration and Finance at the Oriental Institute, ensuring a bridge between Faculty administration and Departmental teaching and research projects.

You will have strong organisational skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and demonstrable experience in the ability to prioritise competing demands. The successful candidate will have experience of administrative work with proven IT skills, first class communication skills for a range of audiences, good basic numeracy skills, and proven high quality interpersonal skills to work effectively as a key member of a small department. You will also have the ability to work independently and with a wide range of administrative, research and academic staff, and a general understanding (or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding) of the administrative and academic structure of the University.

Training will be provided where necessary, and the successful candidate should expect to attend occasional University training courses in line with operational requirements.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time (36.5 hours per week), permanent position. The start date is 1 February 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 10 December 2021.
