Neuropathology Research Assistant

Grade 06S: £29,614 – £35,326 per annum
We are seeking a Research Assistant that will be under the supervision of Prof Gabriele De Luca and will be based within the world-renowned Academic Unit of Neuropathology (Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences). The aim of this post is to provide comprehensive technical and logistical support to academics. The work will involve preparation and characterisation of central nervous system post-mortem tissue and cerebrospinal fluid samples for quantitative neuropathology and mass-spectrometry. The postholder will also undertake light and confocal microscopy and downstream analyses and retrieve and archive tissue samples and microscope slides. Alongside this the Research Assistant will be responsible for monitoring, preparing and ordering consumables and perform the record keeping of all laboratory activities.
It is essential that the successful candidate is educated to A Level, or holds an equivalent qualification, and that they have previous laboratory experience working with tissue samples. It is also vital that they have a responsible nature with a methodical and careful approach to working in the laboratory independently. The ability to communicate results clearly and effectively and to discuss scientific ideas is also vital to the role.
It would be beneficial if the postholder has experience in sample preparation for neuropathology and/or mass spectometry and has experience in light and flurosecent microscopy and downstream analysis software.
The post is part-time (0.6FTE) for a fixed term until 19th September 2023 in the first instance.
