Applications are invited for a permanent NMR Service Manager.

Reporting to the Director of NMR Spectroscopy you will be responsible for the provision and daily management of the NMR service offered to researchers as part of the core NMR facility within the Department of Chemistry. The facility comprises fifteen spectrometers (solution and solid-state), provides analytical services for over 400 researchers in Chemistry and beyond and is staffed by a team of five permanent staff members (nmrweb.chem.ox.ac.uk). You will be a member of the department’s research support staff and will contribute to world-leading research in the chemical sciences by providing an expert, problem-solving resource to researchers involving NMR data collection, interpretation and reporting.

Working closely with other technical staff of the facility, you will also assist with the day-to-day operation of the laboratories and instrumentation and will contribute to the training of researchers in the use of NMR spectrometers, providing guidance on experiment selection, execution and data interpretation. You will further contribute to the research activities of the Department through collaborative participation in diverse research projects. They will provide advice to technical staff in the facility on new developments in NMR methodology and will assist facility users in the implementation of such methods

You must hold a PhD in chemical sciences involving significant use of high-level NMR Spectroscopy or have significant academic or industrial experience directly relevant to the post. You will also have expertise in the application and interpretation of a broad range of solution-state NMR techniques for structure characterisation, especially of molecules derived from synthetic chemistry procedures. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are also essential

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Chemistry Research Laboratory, Mansfield Road and is available as soon as possible.
