About the role

Applications are welcomed for an Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN) Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ). This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a project tackling a pressing problem in one of the most dynamic centres of research in digital media and journalism.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will play a leading role in developing and delivering on empirical work using online survey research to advance our understanding of how news on climate change and the environment are consumed online. Working with Principal Investigators, you will develop methodological approaches, as well as arranging and conducting empirical research and data collection. Overall, your research will look at how climate change journalism is consumed by audiences worldwide, and the interplay of science, health, and public affairs journalism more broadly.

The position is fixed-term for 12 months, starting from January 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is part of the Oxford Climate Journalism Network that will be hosted at RISJ and funded by the European Climate Foundation.

About you

You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a substantive area of social science including journalism/media studies, sociology, political science or social data science. You will have a strong publication record of relevant research and writing achievements at an international level, including being published in peer-reviewed journals. You will have experience working with relevant quantitative methods as well as understanding existent work on climate change and public understanding of science and technology. You will also possess excellent written, editing and verbal communication skills to demonstrate a potential to write and present at an international level.
