The University of Oxford has a long tradition in Polar research, and the large number of Polar researchers within our University – over 60 – reflects the expected response of a World-leading institution to emerging issues of global scope in this rapidly changing region. TheForumaims to highlight Oxford’s collective Polar research output and facilitate its impact. It seeks to do so by**i)**promoting/highlighting the multidisciplinary community of Polar researchers within theUniversity of Oxford, resulting in an improved identity for Oxford’s Polar research;**ii)**championing Oxford as a globally strong Polar research institution;**iii)**identifying opportunities for research collaboration within the University and with external groups and organisations, reaching out to the sciences, policy, civil society, and business.
The Oxford University Polar Forum Coordinator will play a pivotal role in Oxford’s polar research, coordinating internal and external communications and engagement, and holding responsibility for administration of the network. Duties include supporting senior faculty on strategic initiatives to advance the polar research agenda and support the development of major collaborative research proposals.
The successful candidate will be an experienced science communicator, events organiser and able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and researchers at all levels. You will have a degree in polar-related research or in science communication. An entrepreneurial mind-set, and the ability to take initiative and work independently, are essential. High level IT / digital media skills, including experience of managing website content, use of social media, Office packages, audio-visual content production, Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) or similar design software is a must.
The appointment will be available part-time (11.25 / 30% FTE) for 10 months.
