About the role

We are looking for a Tissue Handling Technician to work in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. You will be part of the NDS Tissue Handling Platform and the Oxford Centre for Histopatholgy Research (OCHRe) technical team working on the ProMOTE programme and other research projects supported by these teams. You will provide a range of tissue collection and preservation and histological services such as tissue embedding, microtomy and criotomy. The successful candidate should have a track record of working with histological techniques.

You will be responsible for consenting patients, collecting, processing and allocating pathological material from prostate biopsies and radical prostatectomies and for carrying out a variety of histological and molecular biology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding and sectioning, IHC, digitisation of slides using a slide scanner and DNA and RNA extraction. You will be part of Dr Lamb’s research group as well as the ORB/OCHRe Group and will attend weekly lab meetings for both groups together with other meetings as required.

About you

The successful candidate will be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in a science subject. You will also have proven work experience in a bio-banking setting or clinical trials support. You will also have proven work experience in a laboratory performing histological techniques, including microtomy and cryotomy. Evidence of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, accurate data entry, and the ability to maintain and interrogate electronic databases is essential for this post, as well as the ability to collate and analyse data, make alterations and decisions where needed. You will have excellent communication and organisation skills, with a willingness to be flexible with your working hours as and when required. This post will require you to travel across different locations in the Oxford University Hospitals.

This part-time post (80% FTE) is available immediately and is fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance.
