Postdoctoral Bioinformatician Computational Scientist

Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Old Campus Road, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7BN

Grade 7: Salary in range £32,817 – £40,322 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral bioinformatician/computational scientist to join the Computational Rare Disease Genomics Group within the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.

You will conduct detailed analysis of large genomic datasets such as the Genomics England 100,000 genomes project, the UK Biobank and Genome Aggregation Database (gnomAD), taking the lead in data processing and integration, statistical analysis, presentation and interpretation. You will be responsible for the development of the research project, planning new studies with team members, and supervising junior members of the team. This is an exciting research role within a collaborative team. Your research will aim to identify novel types of variation in regions outside of the protein-coding sequence that cause rare disease, with the goal of finding new genetic diagnoses for patients.

It is essential that you have a PhD (or close to completion) in a related subject (e.g. genomics, bioinformatics, statistics) and have previous knowledge and experience of using statistical genetics, bioinformatics or machine learning techniques. You will have experience of leading research and managing the day-to-day running of a research project. A good working knowledge and proficient in the use of programming languages such as Python/Perl/R is essential. Close working within a collaborative team will also require excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and present research proposals and results.

You will be part of a growing team within the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics with a focus on inclusivity and kindness, and a commitment to open and collaborative science.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This post is offered full-time on a fixed term contract until 28 February 2023, in the first instance, and is funded by the Rosetrees and Stoneygate Trusts.
