Postdoctoral Research Assistant in AI for Healthcare

Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ

Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,972 per annum

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in AI for Healthcare to join the CHI lab at the Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering (Headington, Oxford). The post is funded by NIHR and is fixed-term for up to 12 months.

This project is about creating novel AI models to provide intelligent decision support for patients who undergo organ transplants. The Oxford team has developed considerable expertise in machine learning for healthcare applications, and some of the world’s largest datasets of their kind are available for this project. A well-established pathway of translation exists at Oxford for the development of novel healthcare technologies, their evaluation in real healthcare systems, in collaboration with the Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust, and subsequent deployment in practice in collaboration with existing industrial partners. You will develop a suite of interpretable algorithms that predict post-transplant graft and patient survival, as well as patient outcomes if an organ offer is declined. You will also be responsible for literature review, data cleaning and analysis.

You should possess a relevant PhD (or be near completion) in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or conjugate subject and have a strong record of publication in the relevant literature. Good knowledge of machine learning algorithms and/or statistical methods is essential, as well as proven competence in programming methods and evidence of working well as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Tingting Zhu (email: tingting.zhu@eng.ox.ac.uk).
