Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Cell Biology/Biochemistry

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant interested in studying mechanisms of protein biogenesis and quality control to join Professor Pedro Carvalho’s group based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford.

The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out research project and contribute conceptually to the overall research programme. You will work with limited supervision to identify, develop, modify and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project. The post-holder should be able to establish and optimise protocols, supervise and train junior staff in cell biology/biochemistry as well as interpret and present the data for publication. You will also be responsible for overseeing the daily housekeeping of the laboratory and performing any other comparable duties as may be required to ensure the efficient running of the laboratory.

The post-holder should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry or genetics, and have a first author publication in high-profile scientific journals. You should be a well-trained, enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist possessing experience in protein biochemistry, with the ability to work to a high standard. Previous laboratory experience, good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. Experience in structural biology and cellular quality control processes as well as expertise in membrane protein purification are desirable.
