Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Discrete Dislocation Dynamics modelling of diffraction experiments

Grade 7 : £33,309 – £40,927 per annum
We are seeking a full-time to join the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by (The Leverhulme Trust) and is fixed-term (3 years).
Your main objectives will be:
1) Develop our 3D discrete dislocation dynamics code to simulate diffraction patterns and their time evolution.
2) Work with experimental collaborators on the project to help analyse and interpret in-situ DAXM data (3D diffraction experiments)
3) Train the model with machine learning using simulated and real diffraction data from in-situ tests.
You should possess a PhD in a relevant subject, with experience of discrete dislocation dynamics modelling and coding experience in Matlab. Good communication skills and working as part of a team are essential. Basic knowledge of relevant materials science (elasticity, dislocation theory and crystallography) is desirable. Other relevant experience which is desirable but not essential include: coding in C, CUDA, or Matlab/GPU computing, using Github to maintain code and experience of using machine learning.
