Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Vascular Pharmacology

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to carry out research on project funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) entitled ‘TRPV4 channels in the feedback control of coronary artery myogenic tone’
This vacancy is for an ambitious, self-motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic scientist to investigate novel mechanisms regulating arterial tone in the microcirculation, with a particular focus on coronary resistance arteries.
The research group is led by Professors Kim Dora and Chris Garland.
You should either hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, or be close to completion, and have experience studying isolated arteries in a physiological setting. You should have a strong research track record, for the stage of your career, and be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, as you will be expected to write research papers for publication and to present work orally. You should be self-motivated and able to work independently, but also be a good team worker and be keen to collaborate with other scientists in the research group and department. Evident enthusiasm for research and insight in the area is essential.
You will be expected to: manage your own academic research and administrative activities; adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols; test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources; contribute ideas for new research projects; collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters; represent the research group at external meetings/seminars; and carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and other research groups.
The post is funded by the British Heart Foundation and is offered on a fixed-term contract basis until 31 July 2022. The post is available from 1 April 2021.
