Grade 7: £32,817 – £40,322 per annum
Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work under the supervision of Professor Chris Schofield in collaboration with Professor Allen Orville (Diamond Light Source) on a project entitled ‘Structural, Mechanistic and Functional Studies on Oxygenases’. The focus will be on time-resolved structural studies on mechanistically interesting enzymes of biomedicinal importance and will employ synchrotron and X-ray free electron laser methodologies. The research is funded by the BBSRC.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the structural and mechanistic studies, which will involve detailed biophysical analyses. They will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate, and adapt existing and develop new synthetic techniques and synthetic methodology. They will be responsible for managing their own academic research and administrative activities.
Candidates should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemical Biology prior to taking up your appointment. They should have extensive expertise in biophysics, in particular crystallography, and biochemistry, including protein production andbe able to demonstrate competence and success in their thesis research area. They should be able to demonstrate an ability to work supportively in a laboratory environment and with minimal supervision, be well organised and be able to keep detailed laboratory records and report on progress at regular intervals.
The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3QT.
This is a fixed term position for 36 months, with a start date of 1st June 2021.
