Postdoctoral Research Associate investigating proton coupled membrane proteins in human health and disease

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 per annum

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the membrane protein research group led by Professor Simon Newstead. We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher interested in discovering and understanding the role of proton coupled solute carrier transporters and channels in health and disease.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in structural biology/biochemistry and ideally have experience in the field of membrane protein biology. You should have laboratory experience in core molecular and biochemical techniques especially with protein expression and purification. Previous experience of using mammalian and insect cell expression systems is highly desirable. Experience in structural biology techniques (LCP crystallisation &/or cryo-EM) or of studying dynamic membrane proteins is essential. You should also have an enthusiasm for working in a laboratory environment and a pro-active determination to drive forward research projects within a collaborative environment. This project involves imaging across scale, from single particle to live cell imaging through to proteomics. The post would suit an ambitious individual looking to develop their skills in these areas.

This full-time, fixed-term post is funded by Wellcome for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

This position is graded on the University’s grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
