Postdoctoral Research Associate investigating trafficking within the early secretory pathway

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 per annum

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the membrane protein research group led by Professor Simon Newstead. We are looking for an experienced structural biologist interested in understanding cellular trafficking pathways using the latest structural, biochemical and protein engineering techniques.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in structural biology/biochemistry and must have experience of using cryo electron microscopy on dynamic eukaryotic membrane proteins. You should also have experience of protein expression and purification using mammalian or insect-based systems and of protein characterisation using biophysical and biochemical techniques. You will have excellent communication skills including the ability to write for publication, present research results and represent the research group at meetings. This project is part of a larger collaborative programme and thus some experience of collaboration with cell biology and computational groups is highly desirable.

This full-time, fixed-term post is funded by Wellcome for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

This position is graded on the University’s grade 7 scale. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

To apply for this role and for further details including the job description and selection criteria, please see the document below. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 4th February 2022, with interviews for shortlisted candidates to be held as soon as possible thereafter.
