Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Nuffield Department of Medicine, Big Data Institute, Li Ka Shing Centre for Health and Information Discovery, Old Road Campus, Oxford, OX3 7LF

Grade 7: £32,817 – £40,322 per annum (with a discretionary grade to £44,045 per annum)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the computational genomics team led by Dr Jerome Kelleher, at the Big Data Institute. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Janssen-University of Oxford Translational Genomics Fellowship programme, and to develop the next generation of genome imputation methods using novel genealogy-based algorithms.

As Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will work closely with scientists and collaborating researchers in a globally distributed team. You will develop an open-source Python package for imputation, building on recent breakthroughs to develop imputation methods that are both more accurate and efficient than the current state-of-the-art. You will use the Tsinfer software to infer genealogical trees for large datasets such as UK Biobank and FinnGen, and use these datasets to test and refine the imputation methods.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) in a quantitative science subject and have significant experience and research skills in large scale genomics. You will have a good working knowledge of genomics file formats such as VCF, PLINK and BGEN. You will also be proficient in Unix and the Python programming language. It is important that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work closely with others as a team.

The position is funded by the Janssen-University of Oxford Translational Genomics Fellowship and is a fixed-term contract for 24 months.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 8 March 2021 can be considered. Please quote reference 149323 on all correspondence.
