NDCLS, Level 4, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU

Grade 7: £33,309 – £36,382 p.a.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Post-doctoral Research Scientist and lab manager to work with the Gene Medicine Research Group to develop gene therapy for a range of diseases. The group is directed by Professors Deborah Gill and Steve Hyde at the University of Oxford, and based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. We have expertise in the generation of viral and non-viral vectors, testing in pre-clinical models, and large-scale manufacturing and transfer to clinical trials. The Gene Medicine Group is also part of the The UK Respiratory Gene Therapy Consortium which has progressed results from laboratory studies to the first demonstration that gene therapy can produce improvements in the lungs of CF patients. The Consortium’s expertise brings together all aspects of translational science and evaluating new therapeutics in clinical trials and a Lentiviral vector for CF gene therapy which has recently been purchased by Pharma Boehringer Ingelheim. New collaborative projects are also underway for other lung conditions.

The successful applicant will have a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field, with research experience in gene therapy research. You will perform independent research and also be part of a multi-disciplinary team to support multiple gene therapy projects with a focus on organising and running a successful research laboratory. You will also have responsibilities for managing a small team of researchers to produce purified virus for specific disease applications. Specialist knowledge in aspects of lung physiology or pathology would be desirable.

The position is available immediately for a period of 12 months in the first instance with strong prospects of renewal. This position is full time.
