Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Genetics & Biology

Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Old Campus Road, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7BN

Grade 7: Salary in range £32,817 – £40,322 per annum

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Genetics and Biology to join the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, to lead the molecular analysis of human tumours and model systems.

You will define the mechanisms and consequences of elevated mutation burden in colorectal and endometrial cancers, with particular focus on the tumour-immune interface. You will also have the opportunity to lead other projects outside this area. You will be essential in undertaking laboratory work as required in molecular and functional genetics, such as sample preparation, genotyping, mutation screening, analysis of tumours, cell culture, and genetic manipulation, and including method development where appropriate. You will manage own academic research and administrative duties, and adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques.

It is essential that you have a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant scientific discipline. A good ability to work with a high degree of independence, to learn rapidly and to master several laboratory techniques is essential, as this role requires lone working. You will have experience of the genetic analysis of human diseases, including cancer and experience of other techniques of cancer analysis. Close working on collaborative projects with colleagues will require good written and electronic communication skills.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This post is offered full-time on a fixed term contract until 31 May 2024, and is funded by Cancer Research UK.

Please quote 149564 on all correspondence. Only applications received before 12.00 noon on 8 March 2021 will be considered.
