Postdoctoral Scientist in Human Islet Isolation

Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, Headington, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,817 – £40,322 p.a.(with a standby payment at 6% of the basic salary for on-call work)

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join our Islet Isolation team, based at OCDEM on the Churchill Hospital Site.

The post is funded for 1 year on a rolling contract by the Department of Health via the National Commissioning Body. The post-doctoral scientist is primarily required to take a major role in the clinical islet isolation and transplantation programme and to participate in research activities within the Islet Transplant Research Group. The post holder will provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students. The successful candidate will develop and lead independent research under the overall supervision of the Director in one of the research areas of the group (islet isolation and islet transplantation).

You will hold a PhD in Biological Sciences and will have experience of presentation and interpretation of scientific papers and information. You will have a flexible approach to the workload and will be willing to participate in the on-call rota, which does involve night working. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both in writing and orally and will work well within a team as well as independently.

This full-time post is available immediately and is fixed-term until 31 March 2022 in the first instance. We would be willing to consider applications for part-time hours.
