Grade 7: £ 33,309 – £ 40,927 with a discretionary range to £ 44,706 per annum

We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist with a keen interest in developing novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and who will play a key part in driving the translational goals of our drug discovery team at the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute.

You will be part of a team that is responsible for research to understand protein structure-function, to identify novel ligands for the targets of interest, and to understand the molecular pharmacology of the target proteins, especially neuroinflammatory targets implicated by human genetics. You will be responsible for designing experimental plans, developing experimental methodology and establishing protocols. Attention to detail and ability to communicate and provide critique on experimental design, execution, and outcome is essential. You will also provide technical advice to research assistants and colleagues or collaborating academic groups.

It is essential that you hold a PhD or DPhil in biochemistry, pharmacology, or other related subject with previous experience in in vitro assay development including biochemical, biophysical, protein-protein interaction or target engagement assays. You will have a strong background in protein biochemistry/enzymology with experience of determination of mechanism of action and analysis of kinetics.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
