Research Assistant

Grade 6: £29,716 – £34,804 per annum (with discretionary range to £33,914)

We are seeking a highly-motivated Research Assistant to become a member of the DIL, reporting to Professor John Todd.

You will be responsible for the provision of research support for a project investigating the potential shared mechanisms and similarities between beta-cell death in T1D and neuronal loss in neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on understanding the physiological and pathological roles of the aggregation-prone protein Tau, encoded by the MAPT gene. You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities, and contribute to the wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects.

It is essential that you hold a BSc degree in biological science or have relevant experience in a research environment. You will possess sufficient skills in mammalian cell and tissue culture, Western blotting, molecular cloning, gene expression analysis, and microscopy. You will have experience of following and adapting SOP’s, and selecting appropriate experimental methodologies and troubleshooting. It is essential that you have excellent time management skills and are flexible, adaptive and creative in solving problems and dealing with change.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written is essential for the role as there is a requirement to contribute to reports, journals and presentations.
