The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to work under the supervision of Dr Steven Kelly. The post is funded by an industry-sponsored research agreement for 24 months, and the work will be conducted in Steven Kelly’s group in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RB. The post-holder will work primarily on plant transformation running their own transformation projects, and assisting other members of the group with plant transformation.
Applications are invited for a highly motivated individual to join the Kelly lab to work on exciting projects at the forefront of understanding and engineering photosynthesis. This individual will assist with several ongoing lab projects by transforming plants with constructs designed to test hypotheses about photosynthetic function, and test hypotheses about how photosynthesis could be improved.
The successful candidate will also have their own dedicated transformation projects, and will work closely with other members of the group to assist them with already running plant transformation projects. The day-to-day activities of the role will include: maintaining and generating new plant lines, conducting segregation assays, genotyping and assisting with phenotyping of transgenic lines. The role will also include protocol development and training junior lab members in plant transformation. The applicant should have a relevant PhD or with some directly relevant experience in plant transformation. Experience in plant transformation. Preferably more than one species and transformation method. Relevant molecular biology skillsets, including construct design and assembly, PCR, plant tissue culture, plant selection, and plant regeneration experience. The position is fixed term for 24 months.
