Grade 6: Salary in range from £29,176 – £34,804 per annum

We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised Research Assistant in Functional Genomics to join the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics Institute. You will be part of a research team lead by Professor Julian Knight who has extensive experience in the functional genomics of immunity.

As a Research Assistant in Functional Genomics, you will be undertaking the research described by carrying out laboratory work involving a wide spectrum of genetic, functional genomic, molecular and cellular approaches. You will keep detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of experimental plans and work, aid in writing of reports and contribute to the publication of research findings in high quality journals. Working closely with the group head and keeping him up-to-date with progress and difficulties in the research project and undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time that are commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of this post.

It is essential that you have a degree in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field. A good working knowledge and ability of how to organize and prioritise work efficiently delivering results to required standard and to an agreed schedule. You will require experience in standard molecular biology techniques and the ability to work within a team effectively. A good appreciation and demonstrable interest in the research described here will be essential.
