Research Assistant – Seychelles Seagrass and Carbon Mapping Project
Department of Zoology, Mansfield Road, Oxford
Grade 6: £29,176 – £34,804
We are looking to appoint a research assistant to work on the Seychelles Seagrass and Carbon Mapping Project within the Department of Zoology. The project will deliver the scientific baseline necessary to support the inclusion of seagrass protections into Seychelles’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement, to bolster global efforts to lessen the impacts of climate change.
The Research Assistant will support an international team of researchers on this project to fill key data gaps regarding seagrass distribution, extent, and soil carbon stock by drawing on advances in satellite remote sensing and field data collection. The Research Assistant will assist with literature and data synthesis, technical writing, organizing collaborative meetings, field planning and logistics, and foundational geospatial and remote sensing work. The post will provide excellent experience of interdisciplinary ocean science, working at the interface of marine research, conservation and policy.
You will have a degree (2:1 or above) in marine biology or a relevant discipline with demonstrable writing and literature review skills and deep interest or existing skill sets related to marine geospatial science, remote sensing and coral reef ecosystem studies. Experience in related marine field or lab work is also highly desirable.
The University of Oxford is committed to equality and valuing diversity. Please apply for this vacancy online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement, which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.
