Grade 7: £32,817 to £40,322 (with a discretionary range to £44,045 per annum)
Applications are invited for a Research Associate in HIV-host interactions to join an NIH funded project in Professor Peijun Zhang group based in the Division of Structural Biology at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
You will manage the project day-to-day, including both design and action of strategies in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, structural studies using cryoEM and other appropriate methods. You will use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment and will act as a source of information and advice to other group members and will act in a co-supervisory role towards graduate students within the research programme. You will carry out collaborative projects with partner research groups and contribute to the preparation of scientific results and the overall development of the programme. You will also manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves both design and action of strategies in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, structural studies using cryoEM and other appropriate methods. The project requires close management, the co-ordination of different strands within the programme and the meeting of deadlines.
You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in structural and functional studies of proteins and protein complexes. You will have research experience in production and purification of proteins for structure/function studies using mammalian and E. coli expression systems, cryoEM and/or cryoET, and/or X-ray crystallography including both experimental and computational and substantial research experience in protein biochemistry and structural biology. You should demonstrate a good publication record, including work at level of first author in a leading journal, have good written and oral communication skills.
The position is fixed term until 31 May 2022, in the first instance.
