Research Associate – Net Zero Dashboard

Grade 7: £33,309 p.a.

We are seeking a Research Associate to ensure the Oxford Net Zero’s contribution to an updated and improved dashboard of net zero commitments around the world. Oxford Net Zero is a new initiative drawing on the University’s world-leading expertise in climate science and policy. The initiative will provide research and resources for policymakers and businesses at this critical juncture for international action on climate change.

The successful candidate will contribute their analytical skills and provide guidance to junior members of the research group, collaborate with project partners and report to the Oxford-based Co-Investigators. You will manage volunteers in citizen science, to meet deadlines for producing the dashboard and reports. Co-ordinating the volunteers involves helping train them in data collection protocols and processes, and managing own workflow around volunteer efforts. You will assist with developing improved research methodologies, data collection, cleaning, and quality control. Presenting papers at conferences or public meetings will be part of this role.

You must hold a first degree, together with some relevant experience and be working towards a doctorate in a specialist discipline. You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and associated activities. You will possess knowledge of climate policy, in particular around migration and net zero emissions and have the ability to work with large datasets. Strong communication skills, including the ability to write for publications, present research proposals and result are essential. The ability to work effectively with large reams of volunteers is necessary.

This is a part-time (19.5 hours per week) fixed-term contract for 9 months.
