Grade 5: £25,941 – £30,942 p.a.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician to work with Dr Kelsey Jones in Professor Powrie’s Mucosal Immunology Group. You will be based at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford, which is a world-leading research centre where discovery research drives development of transformative therapies for chronic inflammatory and degenerative disease.

The project centres on determination of reciprocal impacts of malnutrition and intestinal infection with bacterial and protozoal pathogens. The aim is to define mechanisms underlying the relationship between malnutrition and increased susceptibility to diarrhoeal disease, impaired oral vaccine efficacy, and Environmental Enteric Dysfunction (EED), and test novel therapeutic approaches. You will work with a variety of in vivo experimental systems, employing a range of cellular and molecular analytical approaches. You will join a dynamic and successful group studying immune regulation in the intestine.

You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, highly organised scientist possessing knowledge and good practical experience in microbiology/parasitology and/or immunology with an ability to produce work to a high standard. The project involves routine microbiology/parasitology techniques, molecular biology (such as PCR), cellular immunology including flow cytometry, sterile cell culture, and in vivo experiments using infection models. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present results clearly and logically, working co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, are also essential capabilities for this post.

This is a full-time post which is fixed term for 18 months.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Thursday 4 March 2021.

You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. Please direct your informal enquiries to Dr Kelsey Jones: kelsey.jones@kennedy.ox.ac.uk
