Researcher – Energy Demand and Social Justice

School of Geography and the Environment, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,817 – £40,322 p.a.

We are seeking a Researcher to scope the intersections between racial justice and energy demand research, identified as an important research gap, leading to writing a report and promoting it to funders and policy makers in an attempt to influence funding and future research priorities. The role supports the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS), which is the flagship centre on energy demand issues of UK Research and Innovation.

The first steps towards developing the research agenda on the intersections between racial justice and energy demand research were taken through a roundtable involving experts from the racial justice and energy demand communities. It is expected that, in addition to a comprehensive literature review and locating relevant sources of data, the postholder will continue to engage with these communities in shaping this agenda. It is likely this will result in new research proposals and projects, but also that it will offer a useful critique of the research currently underway in energy demand. The work will culminate in a scoping report, a draft proposal, and advocacy material, including presentations, blogs and maybe an academic paper.

The successful candidate must hold or be close to completion of a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent research experience. You will have specialist knowledge and experience of racial justice, or related areas such as disadvantaged/racialised communities or international development. You will have demonstrable experience of writing, including scoping work, literature reviews and reports and previous experience of contributing to presentations and working in communities. An interest in energy/energy demand is essential.

This position is available immediately and it is fixed-term for 12 months.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon on Monday 11 October 2021, and interviews will be held in late-October 2021.
